High up on the solid rock face of the Magaliesberg, a gorge rips straight into the rock, softened only by a blanket of trees that has grown over millennia.
It is only when you drive in the gate that you realise what you have left behind. A trail climbs higher and higher under a thick canopy; the main lodge holds the restaurant, the bar, two conference rooms and a large veranda over the valley. Sandton is 55 km away. It doesn’t feel it.

Leopard Lodge has been hosting weddings for almost twenty years: vows in the open-air chapel among the trees, dinner on the veranda over the valley, dancing until late.
Up to 200 guests. The bridal suite is on us for the night, and your guests get the rest of the lodge at a better rate.
Field notes
Leopard Lodge is a vulture sanctuary. Hundreds of endangered Cape vultures breed on the Skeerpoort cliffs above the lodge; bring binoculars and watch them ride the thermals in the afternoon. Below them, 248 hectares of bushveld and the animals that live on it:
